Our Cornhole Wrap Application video, was designed for a brand-new installer. Also, a good review if you haven’t installed in a while.
PREP DETAILS – Prior to decal application
I am paranoid about dust during my wrap applications because I often apply in the same shop area that I cut and sand wood in. Lots of guys do this in open areas…to avoid fumes and let dust go to the wind. I am soft (haha) and love my shop HVAC (low humidity) to work and finish wood projects in.
My detailed list of what I do before cornhole board wrap application:
- I try not to sand or do any dusty project work 2-4 hours prior to application
– I also run my air filtration unit during sanding and after (optional)
– I do the same before I applying polyurethane, especially the final coat. NOTE: I apply (2 coats) of water-based polyurethane to my tops – (optional) protects boards and vinyl really sticks to it - Vacuum your work bench and board tops, before wrap (decal) application to remove any dust
- Using a lightly damp clean paper towel I wipe down board tops to pull away any remaining dust
– I do not use tack cloths because of the residue left behind, again personal preference - Always clean your application (felt) squeegee before applying wraps; less chance of scratches
- Wraps are stored away from sanding and cutting area in a climate controlled room to keep them clean
– Wraps and boards should be same temperature for installation (50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit stated by vinyl manufacturer)
– Also best to roll out wraps and let them lay flat on the board tops for a few minutes before install - I move wraps to my “dust free” shop a few minutes before application to prevent possible contamination
- WASH MY HANDS – any specks or chips of wood dust or dirt stuck to the adhesive side of the wrap/decal will likely show on the front side after wrap is applied
- Before using a squeegee on a wrap, I always wipe wraps with a microfiber cloth to remove any possible dust
– The better care you use means less chance to scratch the surface during the squeegee process - Yes, a bit more than necessary, but if I slip on any detail…I am still above average and installs turn out great every time!
Hope this helps, a bit detailed…the what and why, I do it the way I do.
Chris
